Without volunteers this event simply cannot happen. We rely on enthusiastic members of the community with a wide range of skills and assets to execute a safe and successful event.
If you would like to volunteer please fill in the below form and one of our team will get in contact with you.
Every person in the water needs a kayaker in support of them to ensure their safety at all times. That means every individual and team must have a person to kayak the 20km alongside them. Kayakers need to be fit and competent in moderately rough conditions.
We do our best to put a boat with every ‘group’ of swimmers, approximately 1 boat for every 3 to 4 swimmers in the water. This ensures everyone’s safety & means we can take people out of the water if need be. Boats should be at least 5m long and appropriately equipped with VHF radio, first aid kit, and life vests etc.
The more we can spread the word about the event, the more donations we can raise. Advocates connect us to their respective social circles, raise awareness of the event & ultimately the great work of the Chopper. No qualifications required, just a passion for the cause and willingness to share it with your friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
